Minimize your cancer risk by eating the right type of food!

In 1900, when my father was born, one in 33 people developed cancer in their lifetime. Today cancer has surpassed heart disease in North America and every other man and every other woman will develop cancer in his or her lifetime. Indeed all of us have damaged and/or cancerous cells within our body, but a strong immune system keeps these cells in check. In this article I will tell you what is causing this cancer epidemic and what you can do to minimize your risk.

Number 1: Drink clean water.

Our drinking water supply has aluminum added to it to remove phosphates, chlorine to disinfect, and fluoride, presumably to prevent cavities. All three chemicals are bad for our health. Aluminum has been associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Chlorine is converted into trihalomethanes–a known carcinogen. Fluoride has been associated with cancer, dental fluorosis (white specs on teeth), lowered IQ in children and there is strong evidence that fluoride in drinking water does not reduce the incidence of dental cavities. The incidence of dental cavities is higher in Toronto with its fluoridated water supply than in Vancouver with no added fluoride. Most of mainland Europe does not add fluoride to drinking water and their teeth are as good as or better than those in North America according to the World Health Organization.

Number 2: Eat local, organic food.

Our food supply has been denuded of nutrition. Continuous farming without proper crop rotation and without adequate minerals in the soil has created a food supply that is between 30% and 70% less nutritious based on government testing. Harvesting crops before they are ripe and transporting them thousands of kilometers from source also reduces the nutritional value of our food. Our crops are sprayed with toxins called insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides. Animals are given hormones and antibiotics to encourage high productivity. They are fed other animals giving rise to mad cow disease and the human variant, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Number 3: Prepare your food properly.

The microwave oven, previously known as the “radar range,” is common in North America but was banned in Russia from 1976 until the collapse of the Soviet Union. What did the Russians know that we didn’t? Microwave cooking destroys the nutritional content of food and has adverse effects on the immune system.

A 1989 study in Switzerland served volunteers cooked food, microwaved food, and raw food. Several blood parameters were monitored before and after eating the food and surprisingly the cooked food came out best, the raw food was a close second but the microwaved food came out bottom. The microwaved food contained radiolytic compounds unknown in nature, turning food into frankenfood. Those who consumed microwaved food had an impaired immune system, altered cellular respiration, and changes in the blood resembling anemia. Eating microwaved food stresses your immune system. Keeping a healthy immune system is essential; after all it is your immune system that fights cancer.

Number 4: Avoid food in contact with toxic chemicals.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a known carcinogen that has been implicated in both breast cancer and prostate cancer. It is also a chemical found in plastics and in the lining of food and beverage cans.

A recent study at the Harvard School of Public Health found that a group of volunteers who ate a serving of canned soup each day for five days had more than a 1000% higher level of urinary BPA. Eating canned food, drinking out of polycarbonated bottles (identified by the recycling number 7) and heating food in plastic containers in a microwave oven all increase our exposure to this toxic chemical.

Number 5: Avoid eating wheat.

Diet is extremely important and, as many of you know, we eat a lot of wheat. Wheat in this country has been modified. It is not the same wheat that our grandparents ate, and it is certainly not the same wheat I ate when I was young and I was born in 1926. A book by William Davis MD called “Wheat Belly” explains how toxic wheat has become and how much diabetes, cancer and heart disease it has caused.

Why do we have this cancer epidemic? Why is it that after spending billions of dollars we can go to the moon but we don’t have a cure for cancer? Because government is not doing its rightful job. In the US, campaign contributions from the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and chemical complex and a well-funded lobbying industry in Washington are providing the best government money can buy. Levels of corruption are as bad as in third world countries. There is too much political influence in safety and regulatory agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The head of the FDA is a political appointment by the President. Canada is not nearly as corrupt but it follows the United States in many of its policies. Making cancer go away is not good for business.

Until we have campaign reform in the United States and until Canada decides to minimize corporate influence in government agencies, it will be business as usual. That is why it is so important for all of us to take our health into our own hands. Drink clean water, eat organic food that is not genetically modified and is locally produced, properly prepared (not microwaved) and kept away from toxic chemicals.
